Monks House is an enchanting, part timber framed, Grade II listed detached family house, with a fascinating history. It was built by Thomas Street in 1663, who was believed to be a blacksmith and the house was originally known as Gravel Pits Farm. The property was later extended at the rear in Victorian times and the architecture shows a clear definition of the two periods. The external elevations are mainly colour washed and relieved with flint and brick chequer work at the front and right hand gable end. Internally, the house has many period features and provides superb, light family accommodation on three levels.

Monks House is approached by a sweeping circular gravel drive and is surrounded by its beautiful gardens of about an acre, with a lovely view towards the North Downs at the front. A Granary is located to one side of the drive, which offers ideal space for use as a home office / studio. The gardens have been divided into sections to create a formal area and also an orchard with a variety of fruit trees. Rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias provide glorious colour during the spring.

Gomshall is a small village situated in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the few Surrey Hills villages which has its own station, with a branch line to Guildford and Dorking. The village of Shere is about a mile along the footpaths and offers a local stores and post office, various gift shops, an ice cream shop, a health centre and two pubs. For more extensive shopping and recreational facilities, Guildford lies about 7 miles to the north west and Dorking is about 6 miles to the east. Both have mainline railway stations with services to Waterloo and Victoria respectively. The A3 at Ripley provides direct access to the M25 at Wisley. Golf courses in the area include Clandon Regis, Cranleigh and Effingham.
