Lying within the northern boundary of the South Downs National Park, an attractively refurbished, detached, Grade II listed cottage enjoying a delightful position within the village of Selborne.
The attractive village of Selborne is famous for its association with the 18th Century literary naturalist Gilbert White. His book ‘The Natural History of Selborne records his observations on local animals, birds and plant life, and has been continuously in print since 1789. White constructed the Zig-Zag path up the Selborne Hanger and from here there is a magnificent view of The Wakes, more commonly known as Gilbert White’s House, and the village in its countryside setting. The famous Zig Zag path forms part of a network of footpaths and bridleways in the surrounding countryside and hangers with 260 acres of National Trust immediately south and west of Pound Farm, with easy access for walking and horse riding.
The village remains a social hub; there is a popular pub serving food, the Selborne Arms, and a number of shops, tea rooms, gallery and the Oates Museum, to which residents of the village have free entry. Selborne has a popular primary school, just a 5 minute walk from the property, and there many local state schools and private schools, such as Bedales, Highfield, Churchers and Brookham, all within a 10-15 mile radius.
For the commuter, Selborne lies off the B3006 which provides access to the A3 and A31 for London and the coast. Alton rail station is 4 miles away, and Liss station 5.5 miles away, both providing excellent access to London Waterloo. Basingstoke and Winchester Rail station, both around 20 miles away, have comprehensive connections.
